📍 Location
Karukachal Grama Panchayat is situated in Changanassery Taluk of Kottayam District and falls under the jurisdiction of Vazhoor Block Panchayat. The Panchayat extends across the villages of Nedumkunnam and Karukachal, covering an area of approximately 22.4 square kilometres.
🧭 Boundaries of the Panchayat
- 🔹 North: Pampady, Meenadam, Vakathanam and Puthuppally Panchayats
- 🔹 East: Nedumkunnam and Pampady Panchayats
- 🔹 South: Kunnamthanam Panchayat, Pathanamthitta District
- 🔹 West: Madappally and Vakathanam Panchayats
🏛️ Administrative History
📅 16 August 1953 – The local self-government institution was established under the name "Kugrappilly Panchayat".
📅 15 August 1955 – The Panchayat was renamed as "Karukachal Grama Panchayat".
👨💼 K. P. Sreedhara Panicker served as the first President of the Panchayat.
🏞️ Topography and Natural Resources
Karukachal Grama Panchayat is located in the midland geographical zone of Kerala. The region is characterized by a picturesque landscape comprising hills, slopes, valleys, plains, and paddy fields.
💧 Streams flowing through different parts of the Panchayat and its favourable climate contribute significantly to agricultural prosperity.
🪨 The presence of lateritic soil mixed with gravel makes the area highly suitable for cultivation.
