Karukachal Grama Panchayat is a Local Self-Government Institution situated in Changanassery Taluk of Kottayam District, within the jurisdiction of Vazhoor Block Panchayat. The Grama Panchayat plays a vital role in addressing the basic needs of the people and promoting the social, economic and infrastructural development of the locality.

Spread over an area of approximately 27 square kilometres, Karukachal Grama Panchayat has a population of around 29,977. The Panchayat is home to people from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds who live together in a spirit of cooperation and community participation.

The Grama Panchayat continuously works towards improving the quality of life of its residents by providing essential services, strengthening basic infrastructure, implementing welfare programmes and undertaking development initiatives based on local needs and priorities.

Through Grama Sabhas, Ward Sabhas and various participatory committees, the Panchayat encourages residents to actively participate in the planning and implementation of development programmes. The Panchayat gives due importance to ensuring access to safe and adequate drinking water and protecting local water resources. Necessary interventions are undertaken in areas facing water scarcity, along with awareness programmes promoting responsible use and conservation of water.

Improving sanitation and maintaining clean surroundings are also important priorities. Various initiatives are undertaken for public cleanliness, sanitation awareness and scientific waste management with the active participation of the community.

Waste Management and Environmental Protection

Karukachal Grama Panchayat promotes scientific, sustainable and environmentally responsible waste management practices. Source-level segregation of waste is encouraged in households and institutions, while appropriate systems are developed for the collection and management of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

The activities of the Haritha Karma Sena are supported and coordinated for the collection and proper management of recyclable waste. Through community participation, the Panchayat works towards maintaining clean public spaces, protecting the environment and creating a cleaner and greener locality.
